The page also gives you a graphical overview of all envelopes and thus the overall amplitude response of the complete sound. You can also create one basic shape for several envelopes, unlink them, and then modify each one separately. This allows envelopes to share the same structure and can be very useful, for example, to synchronize the amplitude progression of two operators. Edit several simultaneously by linking them in one or more groups. Edit one envelope while still being able to see the others at the same time. It allows operator envelopes to be viewed simultaneously. The Envelope Expert Page offers the same functionality as the Operator Overview Page. Each individual oscillator also has a dedicated page presenting all its parameters and providing you with the opportunity to fine-tune your sound. This offers a very fast and convenient way to set up the basic structure of a sound and customize existing ones. The Operator Overview Page displays all the operators' most important parameters simultaneously. You can load a template or create your own shapes. The amplitude is shaped by the multi-breakpoint envelope - add and delete breakpoints, set their levels and control their transitions.
FM8 VERSION MOD
Several modulation sources or different MIDI values such as aftertouch or mod wheel can be used to modulate the amplitude. Choose different waveforms, select different ways to adjust the operator’s frequency, control responsiveness to MIDI velocity messages, and set panning and amplitude. It also provides a concise overview of all FM connections, so you don’t have to go from page to page to collect all a sounds' parameter data.Įach operator has a detailed editing page where you can adjust all its parameters. The matrix makes handling frequency modulation parameters simple. The FM8's matrix allows you to quickly connect any two operators, as well as determine the modulation amounts for all connections. The modulator signal modulates the carrier's frequency by a specific amount. A minimum of two, known as the modulator and carrier, are always interconnected. Features:įrequency modulation is based on the interaction of operators.
FM8 VERSION SERIES
…and we’ll get to that in a minute, but right now let’s look at the original script and the problem, or rather, series of problems, as they initially unfolded.FM8 packs the intricacies of FM synthesis into a sleek user interface with innovative advanced features. Later, after the smoke had cleared, I built a demo to explore various approaches one might take… No problem - how hard could that be? Any competent FileMaker developer can do this in his or her sleep, right? Well sometimes properly defining the problem turns out to be half the battle. The challenge: Click a button to find all records with the same Note text as the current record. Most of the time, the existing routine worked correctly, but on certain records it would fail. This happened recently when I was asked to help make a scripted search behave properly. Sometimes a seemingly-simple FileMaker challenge turns out to be more nuanced and educational than first impressions might indicate. Note: FileMaker 12, released a few months after this article was written, introduced a “Find Matching Records” step, effectively eliminating the need for the techniques explored below.

FM8 VERSION SKIN
As often happens in FileMaker, there are many ways to skin the cat.Value lists are subtle and multifaceted to get them to do what we want, we sometimes have to move beyond the obvious. Some of the material in this series will be beginner-level some will be either intermediate or advanced, depending on your point of view. This time around, and over the next few postings, we’re going to step back from the cutting edge, identify some common value list challenges, and propose some solutions to those challenges.

In July and August we explored several esoteric value list techniques.
